How much will I earn through this program?

Once you're a part of Google AdSense, you can view your earnings at any time by logging in to your account at https://www.google.com/adsense and clicking the Reports tab. How do I earn with AdSense for search?
AdSense for search lets you offer your users Google web search directly from your pages. By placing an AdSense for search box on your site, you'll generate earnings from ad clicks made by users on the search results pages.
You won't, however, receive revenue from user searches through your AdSense for search box. When users perform searches on your site, but choose not to click on the ads on the search results pages, you will not receive any earnings.

How do I generate earnings?

How does Google target ads to my website?

How quickly will Google ads start appearing on my site?

After you've been accepted into the program and have implemented the HTML ad code on your site, ads will start running within minutes. If your site is not yet in our index, it may take up to 48 hours or more before we are able to crawl your site. Until your site has been crawled, we may display public service ads, for which you will not receive earnings.
Your ad relevancy should increase over time. However, keep in mind that if you make changes to a page, it may be 1 or 2 weeks before our crawler captures the changes and updates our index to provide more relevant ads.
Adding the AdSense for search code to your pages will instantly generate an AdSense for search box. As search results are displayed on Google-hosted pages, relevant ads will appear immediately, if ads are available for the particular query

How much does AdSense cost?

How does participation in this program affect my site's position in the Google search results?
Participating in Google AdSense does not affect your site's rank in Google search results and will not affect the search results we deliver. Google believes strongly in freedom of expression and therefore offers broad access to content across the web. Our search results are unbiased by our relationships with paying advertisers and publishers. We will continue to show search results according to our PageRank technology.
Adding the Google AdSense ad code or AdSense for search code to your site will not queue your pages for crawling by our main index bots. While our bot (starting with 'Mediapartners-Google') does crawl content pages for the purpose of targeting ads, participation in AdSense does not increase the number of pages from a site in our main index.

The two most popular of these web authoring tools are Microsoft FrontPage and Macromedia Dreamweaver. They are similar to desktop publishing tools but the end product is a web page document (an HTML file). They allow you to edit a web page via a visual interface. This graphical representation is then translated into HTML via the editor.

This means you haven’t got to be a HTML expert to develop a website although realistically you will need to learn some HTML to fix problems in your code. You will also have to learn about the ‘nuts and bolts’ of website publishing such as domain name registering, web hosting and FTP.

As stated above using a products like Frontpage and Dreamweaver make the creation of web pages a lot easier. However you still need to have some computing experience and will have to learn some ‘techie’ stuff before you can even get your website up on the Internet.

You must complete all the steps below to get your account set for your first AdSense payment. Keep in mind that you will need to earn $10 before you can provide your tax details, select a form of payment, and enter your PIN or phone verification number.

1. Check your address
Since payments and PINs, which we'll describe below, are sent to the mailing address in your account, it's important to confirm the accuracy of your payment address and payee name. Keep in mind, especially, that checks and Western Union payments are made out to the payee name exactly as entered in your account.

2. Provide your tax information
We're required to collect tax-related information from all AdSense publishers, including publishers who are based outside of the U.S. , and we're unable to send payment to you until your information has been submitted.
You can submit your tax information within your account by clicking the Tax Information link from the My Account tab. An easy-to-use wizard interface will help guide you to the appropriate online forms. You're able to submit most forms online, and we'll give you instructions on submitting any other forms that may be required.

3. Select your form of payment
Depending on your payment address, there may be a number of payment options available to you, including checks, Electronic Funds Transfer, and Western Union Quick Cash. We suggest you review the available forms of payment to learn about each option. Once you've decided how you'd like to be paid, click the Payment Information [edit] link from the My Account tab of your AdSense account. Follow the instructions on that page to select your form of payment.

4. Enter your PIN and phone verification number
When you've earned $10 in earnings, we'll mail a Personal Identification Number to the payment address in your account. You'll need to enter this PIN into your account before we can send any payments to you. Your PIN will be sent by standard post and will take 2-3 weeks to arrive.
Depending on your location, you may also be asked to verify your phone number. As part of this process, our system will call you at a pre-arranged time, and you'll be required to dial in a verification number that appears in your AdSense account.

5. Generate $100 in earnings
When your total unpaid earnings reach $100, we'll send you a payment at the end of the next month. For example, if your total unpaid earnings reached $100 during January and you completed the 4 steps above, we would send you a payment at the end of February.
If your total unpaid earnings haven't yet reached $100, they'll roll over to the next month and accrue until they meet the $100 threshold.
Payment is disbursed within approximately 30 days of the end of the month — to see the timeline of our payment cycle, read the Payment Timelines section below.

Tracking Earnings You can track your AdSense performance and earnings from the Reports tab of your account. The Reports tab includes two important sub-tabs: Overview and Advanced Reports, which will display day-to-day details about how much your earning from AdSense. There's also important information included in the Payment History page, which is linked from the Overview as well as the My Account tab.
The Payment History page tracks the status of previously issued payments, as well as monthly account calculations. You can click the Earnings details link for any month to view your total earnings, as well as any adjustments made to your account. Once you've qualified for a payment, and your payment has been made, you'll see it listed on this page as Payment issued. Click on the link to see the payment details as well as the exchange rate used to calculate your local currency payment, if applicable.

Payment Timelines or, "When am I paid?"
One of the most common questions we receive at AdSense support is, "when am I paid?" It's certainly an appropriate question, since you probably joined AdSense to earn money and not just because you like how pretty our ads are. So this section describes the AdSense payment cycle, to give you a good idea of when and how your payment will arrive.
Earnings calculated: On the last day of each month, our system identifies all accounts that have $100 or more in unpaid earnings. Earnings accrue over time, so if you earned $40 one month, and $70 the next, you're eligible for payment. All accounts with $100 or more are then sent for approval. A link with specific earnings details will be posted to your Payment History page within the first few days of the month.

Payment issued:
Within the next few weeks, a Payment issued line will be posted to your Payment History page, indicating your payment has been calculated. At this time, we'll have your payment processed and sent to you.
Payment arrives: The time it takes for your payment to arrive depends on form of payment you have selected.
Standard delivery checks: generally arrive within 1-2 weeks of the mailing date in the U.S.; outside of the U.S. typically arrive in 2-3 weeks.
Secure Delivery checks: generally arrive in 5-7 days.
EFT payments: should arrive in your bank account within 2-4 days.
Western Union Quick Cash payments: available for pick-up at a local agent the following day
If there are any problems with your payment, a notice will be posted on your Payment History page. If you haven't received your payment by the 25th of the next month, you can request a reissue.

Holding Payments
If for any reason you would prefer not to receive your check, we're happy to hold payments for you. Just set up a payment self-hold in your account.
Setting a hold will stop payments and your account will continue to accrue earnings. After you remove your hold, we'll send you a single consolidated payment for all your unpaid earnings. To set or remove a hold, follow these instructions.
Please note that all changes to your hold preferences should be made by the 15th of the month. Changes made to these settings after the 15th of the month may apply to either the current or next payment cycle.

What is a PIN?

In order to become eligible to receive payments for your AdSense account, all publishers are required to enter a Personal Identification Number (PIN). PINs are printed on white 4.5 x 6 inch (11.4 x 15.2 cm) postcards and sent via standard mail. To view the outside of the PIN mailer, please see our entry on What does the PIN mailer look like?

Why do I need a PIN?

PINs are necessary to verify the accuracy of your contact information and to help ensure that you can receive your payments.

When should I expect to receive a PIN?

We'll print and send your PIN via standard mail several days after your account balance reaches US $10 for the first time. PINs typically arrive within 2-4 weeks, but may take longer depending on your location.

How long do I have to enter a PIN?

You'll have 6 months from the initial issue date to enter your PIN. If you have not entered a PIN within 4 months, we will replace the paid advertisements on your site with unpaid Public Service Ads. If you still have not entered your PIN within 6 months, your account will be disabled and your unpaid earnings will be refunded to the appropriate advertisers.

What if I do not receive my PIN?

If you do not receive your first PIN, you can request 2 replacement PINs. For instructions on requesting a new PIN, visit How can I request a new PIN?.

If you have requested your maximum of 3 PINs and have not received any of them within 90 days, then sign in to your account. You'll see a notice on the Reports Overview page with further instructions.

Why do I need a PIN?

A Personal Identification Number (PIN) is mailed to each AdSense publisher when earnings have reached $10 on their account. This PIN helps us to verify publisher addresses and protect the personal information of our publishers. If a PIN has been mailed to you, we will hold all payments until the PIN has been entered. However, your account will still be accessible, and you'll continue to be able to show ads and accrue earnings.

We will mail your PIN to the payment address in your account. You'll then have 180 days to enter your PIN within your publisher account, or to request a replacement. If you do not enter your PIN within this period, your account will be disabled and your earnings refunded to the appropriate advertisers.

Please note that we began issuing PINs on January 28th, 2005 -- if your account was approved before this date, you will not need to enter in a PIN

When will I receive my PIN?

Once your account balance reaches $10, your Personal Identification Number (PIN) will be generated and sent via first class mail within 3-5 days. You can view the date it is generated by clicking the Please enter your PIN link on your Payment History page. After your PIN is mailed, you should expect it to arrive within 2-4 weeks, but it may take longer to reach you depending on the postal service in your location.

If you do not receive your PIN, you can request a replacement PIN 3 weeks after the previous PIN is generated.

You might also wish to learn how long it typically takes publishers in your area to receive their PINs. You can find out by visiting the AdSense Help Forum, where AdSense publishers share their knowledge and experiences. You can feel free to post your own questions and search or browse for answers about receiving PINs.

What's the difference between earnings and payments?

Earnings are the revenue that you accrue through your participation in the AdSense program. Seeing an Earnings line appear on your Payment History page for any month does not necessarily mean that you will be paid for those earnings in that month. It simply means that we have verified the earnings that were generated for your account during that month.

Once you have accrued US$100 in earnings, and all payment holds are removed from your account, your account will be eligible for payment according to our payment schedule. When you see a Payment line appear on your Payment History page, that means we have scheduled a payment for you by check or by Electronic Funds Transfer. You can click the details link associated with that payment to learn more about the payment that was made to you

Do you provide an invoice or statement of earnings?

At this time, we aren't able to issue any statements of earnings, invoices or similar documents for our publishers. We suggest that you copy your entire check before depositing it or make photocopies of your bank account statements for your records. Additionally, you can find detailed earnings information in your AdSense account on the Advanced Reports and Payment History pages, which you might be able to use.

Why can't I choose or change my form of payment?

According to our Terms and Conditions, active accounts need to reach $100 in order to qualify for a payment. Cancelled accounts, however, can be paid out if their unpaid earnings are greater than $10. Since we don't ever issue payments for less than $10, we don't allow publishers to select a form of payment until their earnings have reached this amount.

Once you've earned $10, you'll be able to select a form of payment by visiting your My Account tab and clicking the edit link in the Payment Details section. Then be sure to complete the steps in our Payments Guide so you'll be all set to receive your first payment.

How can I select a form of payment?

To choose or change your form of payment, follow these steps.

1. Sign in to your AdSense account.

2. Choose the My Account tab.

3. Click the Payment Details [edit] link.

4. Choose the radio button for your preferred form of payment and click Continue.

5. Follow any additional instructions to choose your form of payment, and save your changes.

What forms of payment are available to me? Google AdSense offers payment to publishers in US dollar checks as well as local currency options in many locations. Secured Express Delivery is available to all publishers, and Electronic Funds Transfer is offered to publishers in a select number of countries and territories. Electronic Funds Transfer: With Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), your payment is deposited directly into your bank account in your local currency. Local currency checks: Google will convert your earnings from US dollars into your local currency if this option is selected. Available to publishers in more than 40 countries, local currency checks are generally less expensive to deposit at your bank, and take less time to clear. Secured Express Delivery: Secured Express Delivery ensures that your check arrives quickly and safely by using a courier service to send your check to you. What is Electronic Funds Transfer?

Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) directly deposits your AdSense earnings into your bank account, in your local currency, to greatly speed up and simplify the payment process. EFT is available to publishers with payment addresses in any of our supported countries.

To sign up for payment by EFT, review our entry on How do I sign up for Electronic Funds Transfer? When you sign up, we require that you provide details about your bank account and verify your account using a small test deposit.

Keep in mind that if you are selecting EFT as your payment type, we are unable to guarantee that your next payment cycle will be made by EFT if you select it after the 15th of the month. For example, to ensure payment by EFT for your March earnings, please sign up for EFT and verify your bank account before April 15th.

What is Secured Express Delivery and how do I select it?

With Secure Delivery, you can be sure that your payment is being sent to you quickly and safely. When your check is ready to send, we'll give it to a courier service for delivery - you can expect to receive your check within 5-10 business days after it's been sent.

Please note that a fee will be applied to your account to help defray the costs of this service. For details, click the Payment Details [edit] link from the My Account tab of your publisher account.

To sign up for Secure Delivery of your AdSense checks:

1. Sign in to your AdSense account at www.google.com/adsense

2. Click My Account

3. Click the edit link adjacent to the Payment Details header

4. Select the Check - Secured Express Delivery radio button

5. Click Continue

6. Select your desired currency from the drop-down list. You may choose to receive payment in United States dollars or in your local currency if available.

7. Click Save Settings to save your payment type, or click Cancel to exit this screen without saving.

Please be aware that Google is not responsible for any secured express delivery payments which may be returned due to an issue with your address. If you wish to receive payments by secured express delivery, please contact DHL to confirm that they will provide service to your address and that it is in the proper format.

In addition, note that publishers with payment addresses in certain countries will have their standard delivery payments mailed by courier as well. Publishers in China will have standard delivery payments mailed by Hong Kong post.

How do you determine the exchange rate for payments?

If you have selected a local currency payment, your AdSense earnings will be converted from United States dollars at the time of payment disbursement. For checks, this is the day that the check is cut; EFT payments are converted on the day that they are wired from Google's account.

The exchange rate is calculated using the prevailing bank rate at the time of conversion. You can view the exchange rate by clicking that month's earnings line item in your Payment History page.

It's not possible to say how much you'll earn for a certain number of clicks or impressions, because your earnings will depend on the actual cost-per-click (CPC) or cost-per-thousand-impression (CPM) paid by advertisers for each ad that appears on your site. Some ads have higher CPCs or CPMs than others, so your earnings will vary depending on the specific ads displayed on your site and those your users choose to visit.
However, please know that all eligible ads will compete to be displayed on your pages, and our system will automatically show those that will generate the highest revenue for you.

Can I view my reports or earnings in my local currency?
If you're receiving payments in your local currency, you can view the local currency amount of each payment by clicking the associated details link on your Payment History page. To view your available payment options, please visit your My Account tab and click Edit in the payment details section.
At this time, we don't offer the option to view reports or daily earnings in a local currency. If this functionality becomes available in the future, we'll be sure to provide more information here in the Help Center.

How to Avoid Being Banned From AdSense
If you trawl through the AdSense message board you can’t help but come across tales of woe from AdSense publishers that have had their account banned by Google.
Below is a list of ways people have been banned from AdSense and information on how to avoid it happening to you.

Don’t click on your own ads
The obvious one but still people do it. Google has the IP address of the computer/s that you’ve used to create and check your AdSense account. If it sees that this IP address clicks one of your ads you’re in trouble.

Don’t do it. It’s theft not from Google but from the AdWords advertisers.
If you want to go to a site advertised by one of your ads don’t click on it look at the URL of the advertising site at the bottom of the ad and type it into your browser.
If you click on one accidentally (which does happen) you’re probably be ok but it’s worth dropping a quick email to Google with an explanation and apology

Don’t log in to AdSense from a shared computer.
As I said above Google keeps a record of every machine IP address used to look at your account. If you check your stats on a machine then someone else clicks on your ads from the same machine Google sees this as click fraud. Worth bearing in mind when thinking of checking your stats from somewhere like an Internet Café.

Don’t log in to AdSense from work.
Apart from getting in trouble with the company that employs you there’s also a further real risk. Most companies use a proxy server to access the Internet. A proxy server with ONE IP ADDRESS. Therefore you checking your ads from work means this proxy IP address being recorded by Google as one that you use. Problem is if there are 1000 people in your company it is the same IP address for them too. Google can’t differentiate between you and the other 999 employees in your company. If one of these 999 clicks on one of your ads it’s ban time.

Don’t get into a ‘I’ll click your ads if you click mine’ agreement with another Webmaster.
As above Google will have your IP address and that of every AdSense publisher. If they see these IP addresses consistently clicking on each other ads it’s goodbye for both of you.

Don’t tell friends and family.
Telling friends and family about your money making websites can lead to problems. Even if you tell them not to click on your ads there’s always the chance that Auntie Maud will think it’s a good idea to make some extra money for her favourite nephew. 100 clicks later from the same visitor and your account is screaming ‘Click Fraud’.

Receiving clicks from Illegal traffic
Check the AdSense TOS for sources of traffic that aren’t allowed by Google. These include methods like Traffic exchange, PTC advertising, Auto surf etc.

Do monitor your visitor and AdSense figures
Check your account at least once a day. If you see a massive spike coupled with a massive increase in Page CTR investigate using your visitor stats website. If you see it’s all come from the same IP address you could have been the victim of a malicious attack – inform Google via email and offer them access to your logs.
